چکیده

Recently initiated studies concerning surfacemodifications of poly(dimethylsiloxanes) usingmicrowave plasmonswere extended to polyurethane (PU) surfaces. However, when the same experimental conditions used in the closed and open flowmicrowave plasma reactorswere applied, no chemical bonding of imidazole molecules to PU surfaces was detected. In order to facilitate the imidazole-urethane surface reactions, PU specimens were immersed in an imidazole-containing methylene chloride solution and exposed to Ar microwave plasmons. This approach appears to be successful in creating chemically stable imidazole species attached to PU surfaces. Imidazole molecules are bonded to PU surfaces through the CdN bond opening of imidazole, to create C-O-C surface bonds. Analysis of the imidazole-urethane linkages was accomplished using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and revealed that the same surface structures on PU surfaces, but different concentration levels of imidazole at various depths from the surface, can be generated under closed and open flow reactor conditions. Quantitative assessments of the surface reactions at various depths are also presented.

Effect of Discharge Gases on Microwave Plasma Reactions of Imidazole on Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Surfaces: Quantitative ATR FT-IR Spectroscopic Analysis

Although our recent studies revealed that under Ar microwave plasma conditions reactions of imidazole with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) result in the formation of Si-CH2-imidazole species, the issue of the discharge gas effect on microwave plasma reactions remain unanswered. This study examines how these reactions in the presence of Ar, O2, and CO2 gases under microwave plasma conditions will ...

An Investigation of the Fatigue Induced Failure Modes

It is proposed to use elastomeric composites as artificial joint bearing surfaces to increase their fluid film lubrication and therefore reduce the number of failures which have been attributed to wear mechanisms. The fluid generated between the surfaces supports part of the load and prevents direct contact of the bearing surfaces. However, permanent deformation and failure of model elastomeric...

Improvement of gas separation properties of polyurethane membrane using plasma grafting

In recent years, plasma treatments have given good results since they offer high technological efficiency with low waste generation. One of the most important characteristics of plasma methods is their action only on a thin surface layer, whereas the bulk of sample remains unchanged and the modified material keeps its chemical and mechanical properties. In this research, polyurethane membrane s...

تهیه الاستومر پلی یورتانی با استفاده از HTPB سنتز شده به روش پلیمریزاسیون رادیکالی زنده با واسطه نایتروکساید: سنتز، (علمی-پژوهشی)

In order to increasing of hydroxy functionality of HTPB an in-situ nitroxide mediated polymerization (NMP) of 1,3-butadiene was carried out in presence of TEPA as a polyfunctional nitroxide precursor. The multi-modal molar mass distribution of the product was elucidated by reductive hydrolyzation of the oligomeric product. The new polyfunctional hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (PFHTPB) was c...

Investigation of the Properties of Polyurethane Elastomer Based on Synthesis and Characterization of PTHF-GAP-PTHF Triblock Copolymer

Binder has a key role in the performance of composite propellants. The binders are classified into two neutral and high-energy categories. GAP is one of the most important energetic binders, but it has poor mechanical and thermal properties. The goal of this investigation is to improve the properties of GAP by copolymerizing it with polytetrahydrofuran. New energy triblock copolymer was synthes...
